Have you ever seen plastic in the ocean? No? Well let me tell you some things about plastic. Sea creatures have been dying because the plastic, up to 1000 000 marine mammals. Mostly whales, seals and turtles die each year from eating plastic or being tangled in plastic. It’s terrible that sea creatures have been eating plastic.
But do you know why sea animals eat plastic? Well let me tell you, sea animals eat plastic because they think it’s sea food. Plastic bags are light and flimsy, making it easy to blow away. That’s why plastic ends up in the ocean.
Did you know that new Zealanders use around three million plastic bags a day? Well we need to change that. I think we need to use less plastic because like that less sea animals can get hurt.

Have you ever been to a beach and not seen any plastic? I haven’t, and that is bad. It’s bad because when it gets into the ocean animals eat it or get tangled in it.
When animals eat the plastic their tummies feel like it’s full but their not. Their just full of plastic. The animals in the ocean eat the plastic because they think its food because it’s floating around. For example red plastic is the colour of squid so the animals in the ocean think it’s squid.
When there is plastic in peoples back yard or front yard some people think they could burn it down. So they do but they dont realise that when you burn plastic chemicals come out of the plastic and it is bad chemicals, and bad chemicals aren’t good for anything.

Each day someone litters or throws something away. Haven’t you wondered where your rubbish goes? Lots of rubbish and animals go there. Lots of animals die at Midway. One day the Earth will become a trash planet if we don’t fix this.
To fix this we need to get things we really need. Think if it is animals safe. Once fish eat plastic what happens if we eat the fish? Is it deadly to us? Will we die? Who knows????
If we burn plastic it creates poisonous gas. We need to not use so much plastic so our planet gets saved.
