Maui and the Sun, Giovanna Cunha - Year 3 student
Once upon a time in a village of Orewa lots of people were complaining about the day. There were not enough hours to play, work and get fish. They were so unhappy Maui had a brilliant plan and called the village to hear him. The village heard him and laughed.
“What a silly plan”, said the villagers.
But he said, “they’ll be help from my bothers and the stick from my Grandmother and some ropes”, and off they went for an adventure with his brothers.
Then after 2 hours they found the Sun sleeping in a cave. Then they got the ropes on the Sun and he work up. He was stuck. Maui punched him.
The Sun said, “stop and I will slow down”.
Then Maui had time to work and play.
Maui and the Sun, Shante Vermeer - Year 4 student
Once upon a time in the village called Army Bay, lots of people were unhappy because the Sun was going too fast. People couldn’t get anything done. Not work, not play.
But Maui said, “I have an idea. I will catch the Sun.”
The villagers laughed.
“You can’t catch the Sun”, they cried, “it is too hot and big”.
He said, “I am going to prove it. I will catch the Sun with the help of my brothers and with my Grandmother’s jawbone”.
They went to the top of a mountain to the Sun, then they threw their ropes around the Sun and pulled.
Then Maui jumped on top of the Sun. The Sun said, “ please let me go”.
“Okay”, they said, “only if you slow down”.
Now there was more time to cook, fish and play.
