Look at the work our dinosaur experts have been doing. Paleontologists in the making ...

Thank you, Mrs Ayers, for sending in these fantastic pieces of work: Dinosaur reports and a volcano.

Samuel and Gabriel have written informative pieces and illustrated them beautifully:

Laith has written this amazing report about diplodocus - Nice work, Laith!

Wihan was inspired to write a fantastic story about a paleontologist. Fantastic, Wihan!! I LOVE your title.

The year 1 and 2 ESOL students have worked on their dinosaur studies - and man they are very impressive dinosaur experts. Mrs Goodall learned a lot!

However, we have also had some fun dreaming up our favourite dinosaur pet or going on a dinosaur hunt.

A friend was wondering what pet to buy: a cat or a dog? I am sure my year 3 and 4 ESOL students will help her choose!

My report is about cats and dogs. I am writing this report to help you pick what pet to choose. Kittens look like very cute balls of fur and are different colors. Some Kittens are skinny and some are fat. Puppies are cute and cuddly. Some are small and some are big. They are different colors as well as cats.    Have you ever thought about what pet is better for you?

Dogs cost more than cats because they need a registration fee. Dogs and cats need to go to the vets. Both cats and dogs need toys, food and water.

Let's think about how much work they are. Dogs need you to pick up poop and you need to train them and walk them. Cats need you to clean the litter box and sometimes you have to brush them.

Dogs always want to play with you and cuddle with you. Dogs are loyal friends and they also can protect you if you are in danger. Cats want to play with you if they feel like it but people like cuddling them. It is very soothing to pat a cat and sometimes they can roll up into fluffy balls of fur. Dogs and cats  are both adoraball with nice little hearts.

I think you should get a cat because it will be easier to have at home and you will be able to do more work. But if you don’t have that much work I would prefer you to get a dog.

By Andrei from 16a

With the help of this report I am going to help you choose what is the better pet for you. Kittens are playful and when they roll up into balls, they are soft balls of fur. Puppies are cuddly and steal your heart with their cute faces and playful, funny games. Have you ever asked yourself what would be the better pet for you: a cat or a dog?

Dogs cost more than cats, because dogs eat more and the registration fee costs a lot.

Cats cost less, but you still have to pay for what cats need. For example cats need

food, water, a collar, a bed, vaccinations and vet visits.

How much work are they? You need to walk dogs, train them, play with them, wash them and pick up their poop.

You have to play with cats, and you have to clean their litter box.

I think dogs are the best company, because when you want to play with them dogs

will play with you. Not like cats because they think you are the pet, so the cat chooses

if they want to play with you.

I think dogs are good pets for people that do less work away from home. In my opinion cats would be better pets for people that do more work away from home. Cats sleep a lot, more than dogs, because they like to play.

Cats  and dogs

Have you ever wondered if  you should choose a cat or a dog?

Dogs are cute like teddy bears and very playful and curious but sometimes they need a lot of work. Cats are playful, little and very sleepy animals.

This report is going to help you to choose the right pet.

If you want a dog you need more money to pay for the registration feed leeds, food, collar, vet, bed, toys. The cat’s owner needs  to pay for toys bed litter box, the litter and the toys ,the vet ,food and an leed with an bell on it.

Dogs are a lot of work. You have to groom the dog nearly every day and walk it nearly every hour, pick up poo, train the dog and play with him. You have to play cuddle games and vacuum your house nearly every day if you have a fluffy dog.

If you want a cat, you need to pay for the cat food and toys that look like a fish on a fishing rod. You need to make a bed for the cat and pay for the vet and you need a collar with a bell because it catches birds.

I think a cat would be better for you because you have a lot of work so that's why a dog would be lonely.

When young authors like Petra from room 21 create fictional worlds just for fun, it's an absolute joy to explore those.

 Magic snorkel mask

                                       Chapter 1

I was walking along the beach, the waves were crashing on the sandy bay, birds were gracefully gliding on the breeze, and fishermen were happily chatting amongst the squeals of children.I decided to admire the view while sitting on a rock thinking to myself ‘What a beautiful day, I Should've bought  my boogie board.’Then i saw something washed up on the sand, at first i thought it was a baby blue penguin but when I got a closer look I saw that it was a Snorkel mask.I put it on to see if i could go diving for Crayfish with it but instead of swimming in the water I was gliding in the air exactly like the birds flying in the sky! I thought to myself this is a  one in a lifetime phenomenon, today, this very day i could travel the world! I decided to take the opportunity.Woosh! And as I went on yet another adventure, as I was flying I saw a herd of elephants, “Wow, Elephants are one of my favorite animals!” I said talking to myself (well no directly at myself i was sort of talking to the bird flying next to me).I flew down hovering above one of the elephants, “Wow....WOW!” I exclaimed as loud as an elephant's trump, but maybe a little too loud because jst then the whole herd of elephants started to go into full  stampede mode, in the distance was a small village and the elephants were heading right towards it all because of me! “It’s time to put this right!” I said to myself.Fwoosh!I flew in front of the elephants, “Halt in the name of The Magic Snorkel Mask!No that sounds weird but it's not the time to think, it's time to fix my mistakes.”I Shouted, the elephants then stopped and said “Beep,Beep,Beep,Beep,Beep.” I was very confused because i thought that elephants made a trumpeting sound not a Beep sound. Then i realized that that was not the elephants it was my alarm clock!I woke up in my bed startled, “It was a dream all along.”I thought to myself, I got up and got ready for school...To be continued.

Coming soon “The egyptians tomb”

Mysterious Island

Woosh! The cold breeze was turning my skin to ice, even with a singlet, long-sleeve top, woolly jumper, and a puffer jacket. The review of this island said it would be tropical, warm, and sunny but it is the complete opposite of that.Oh, where are my manners, the name’s Lucy, Lucy Wilde.Any ways I was on my way to the heart of the island until I heard something Russel in the bushes I thought it was like some sort of Fox or something but it was a tiny elephant. This island really is mysterious  I noticed that everything big was small and  everything small was big!(except for the plants.)Ants were GIANT and elephants were small.I was starting to feel a bit HOT So i took off my puffer jacket and woolly jumper. I walked for another 10 mins then I realized... I didn’t know where I was and I left the map in my jacket pocket! Then I heard some footsteps, “Hoo, Hah, Hoo, Hoo, Hah.” It was a person with paint on his face and speaking like a monkey.I thought he was the owner of the island, “Hoo?*Gasp*A human!”He said excitedly.I looked at him for about 5 seconds before asking “Who are you?”He looked at me in shock, and quite angrily. “You don’t have to be so rude.”He snapped, then walked away.I put my head in my hands realizing I should have asked him how to get out of here.I  started to get really stressed out, i found a nice straight stick and a sharp rock. I tied the rock to the end of the stick with some vine. I looked around and saw my friends face, she didn't come with me. “Wake Up!Lucy!”Said a familiar voice. “W-what?” I stammered,  i managed to make out an image i wasn’t at the island i was at school.Thats right now i remember, someone hit me in the head with a ball!

The Big SPLASH in My Life

                                               Chapter 1

It was 12am and I still couldn't sleep, instead I was thinking about the note mum left me. The note was about me having a pet of my choice but the only problem was that I can’t choose a pet to have! I could have a cat, a dog, or even a Komodo Dragon (Komodo Dragons are NOT dragons they are just really big lizards)we went to the pet store and icant’belive all the animals the where selling: Iguanas, Turtles, WHALES, Dogs, Cats, Birds, Hippos.ect “Mum, Mum, Can i pleeeease have a Unicorn?”Chimed my little sister, “No Milly, it’s your sister's turn now to choose a pet, you will get your turn in 4 years time.”Said my mum sternly. “Mum can I have a whale?”I asked hesitantly.ZIIIIIIIP! “Thank you!Have a nice day!” Shouted the shop owner from a distance, “Bye!!” Milly called back. “Muuuum? What pet did sissy choose?” Asked Milly curiously, “She chose a whale Milly”said mum sounding quite annoyed. As we were walking home a fair woman was waiting to cross the road but as we walked passed she looked at us like we were insane for getting a whale as a pet. “What are you looking at?”Asked Milly quite rudely, the lady quickly whipped her head towards the road realizing she lost her chance to cross the road.A couple minutes of carrying a giant whale home we got to our street, my address is *************** . Come over some time! “Mum!Look the whale wont eat the cake!”Complained Milly, “Milly, Whales do NT eat cake!”Boomed mum, I saw Millie’s eyes were starting to tear up, but mum looked quite annoyed, I knew they wouldn't talk to each other for the rest of the day, so to pass time I decided to find a name for my whale… “Hmmm, how about Bluey...no, OH i know!Janice!Yes Janice.”I went to the store to buy some whale food, but there was no whale food! It was all sold out, and if i didn't get the food in time Janice could starve to death!

                                Chapter  2

Coming soon…the mystery of the missing whale food.

This happens when we write outside the classroom: Pure magic! Well done, year 5 and 6 students. These texts were written at our beach days in Shakespear Regional Park.

The sparkles in the glistening, glittering, gleaming sea caught my attention. The cool, freezing, crashing, splashing sea was blue in colour, but was swelling happily. The shell’s rough, energizing surface was so fun and slippery.A cicada chorus was chirping in unison, breath taking and wonderous. The crystal clear ocean had hunting birds focusing on the lush, squishy shells.

By Jeena, Szofia, Sarah’s group

As the waves crashed and bashed against me, it summoned shells onto the beach. I felt something as the waves reached my legs. They were slapping lazily against the sandy shore.

By Emmy, Big Q, Jesse and Oliver’s group

Go explore Shakespear. Visit the ice cold water on a hot summer’s day. Experience the rough waves in the strong, bubbly water. Have fun in the prickly grass and listen to shrill bird sounds. There is sharp, but soft sand to relax on and enjoy the sounds.

By Georgia, Toby, Ruby and Bella’s group

The grass sweeps aside, as the whistling wind blows. My toes are numb from the foaming, rough waves. The warm sand comforts my numb toes.

By Millie, Alfie, Connor, Cooper and Kyah’s group

The glistening sea rubbed against my toes. The colourful shells lay at the edge of the shore, waiting to be taken in by the sea.

Lakshmi, Phoebe, Ella, Lincoln, Sarah’s group

The revitalising water is invigorating me. The prickly grass hurts, when I step on it. I was buried in the damp, cold sand. The mini tsunami hit my feet, as I shivered in the icy cold water. The scalding sun burned my feet, whilst I was walking on the sand.

By Udo, Michaela, Jess, Aiden (I think), TC, SH’s group

Sweeping, translucent shells are scattered around the curving shoreline. Those shells were cast up by the waves that are now lapping lazily against the sandy shore.

Maybe group 2?

Shakespear Park has shimmering waves and water. The foamy, rough, ice cold water makes me gasp, as a wave gives me a hug. The grass irritates us, as we stride towards the crunching of shells and waves.

By Megan, Aiden, Demi, Charlene, Almeer’s group

Beautiful beaches are gleaming in the hot summer sun. Vibrant green grass surrounds us. Shimmering waves lap onto the bright beach.

No name on worksheet group – sorry guys!

The sand was thin and soft. It felt like standing on solid air. Shakespear is a glorious place to stare at and enjoy the view of Rangitoto and Auckland city. The balmy breeze is caressing my skin and the sharp shells clitter and clutter under our feet. The ocean laps and ripples over the dust like sand.

By Macy and Eli’s group

The pukekos are dashing through the long grass. The trees are growing in this magical forest. Majestic and beautiful the beach lies, where puhutakawa trees are growing like a magical forest. It’s so peaceful here, you should come!

By team 1 – no names, sorry guys

As I arrive at Shakespear Regional Park, I see the beautiful trees and flax. As I walk along the sand, I see the sparkling, glooming, refreshing sea. It feels like I am right at home. At Shakespear I always see all types of birds, when I go on a trail here, like tuis, fantails and pukekos. There is no place I’d rather be.

By “The native squad” – whatever that means!

The glistening water was shining brightly in the blistering sun, as the people were sunbathing on the soft, sandy beach. The view went on for miles. Everyone was swimming in the clear water with a view of the city.

By Sophie, Keertan, William, Deon and Isabelle’s group

The sun shone down on the glistening water. The water was making huge swells, as it washed up on the shore. Your feet sink into the mushy sand, as you step onto it. When you step into the water, you get a chill up your spine, as jelly fish surround you.

By Alex, Nate, Sophie, Hunter, Connor

As we look out to the amazing view of Rangitoto and the city, the blue wate is so translucent and glimmering that you wish you were in it.

The glistening waves make much noise, while blinding you. The sand goes between your toes and gives you a tickle.

Group 5 – no names, sorry guys!

Walking into the place and hearing parrots on those wonderful trees is so neat. When I look straight, there is glimmering sand and shining, colourful shells.

Group 2 – no names, sorry guys!

The dotterels are protecting their precious eggs. The sand is crumbling like a cookie, as we are crushing shells under our feet. My feet skim the soft, smooth rocks on the silent, calm beach. I can feel the swift breeze go across my red, rosy cheeks. The emerald waves crash on the sandy, smooth shore. The gigantic cliffs shadow the sandy shore and the pearly ocean. The transparent worm wiggles around in the silky soft sand. The dazzling shells glimmer in the scorching hot sun.

By Nora, Alexie, Frey, Carlos’ group

I see flax bushes swaying gracefully in the wind. My whole body is caked in sand and the wind is flowing past my face.

Group 2 – no names, sorry guys!

Sea gulls are gently drifting on the wave. The forest of seaweed is hiding tiny creatures. Hitting the ice cold water makes me gasp.

By group 4 – no names, sorry!!

The shells look like clouds that have been frozen. The damp sand cools me down pleasantly. There are dainty, fragile shells and gritty sand between my toes.

By group 1 – no names, so sorry!!

Enjoy this wonderful narrative by one of our talented young author, Hazel from room 15!

This is a wonderful piece by Alex from room 20. He captures the beauty of Shakespear Regional Park through great language choices. Well done, Alex!

     The Amazing ShakeSpear !

ShakeSpear is an amazing regency park in New Zealand that includes many fun activities and some amazing sights. At ShakeSpear we have amazing beaches, impeccable wildlife and beautiful oceans. It is so insane and we are so lucky we have it. There is so much to see and do but let's start off with the beaches. ShakeSpear is known for some of the most beautiful beaches have a look

These beaches involve soft sand, like pillows and beautiful translucent water when you stare into it you can see it shimmer as it reflects off the sun. If you like relaxing in the sun and cold gleaming water this is definitely a beach for you and we also have some unbelievable birds and that leads us to our next category witch is the WildLife. Shakespeare has some beautiful wildlife  and it includes Tuis, pukekos, Rozellas  and more. One of the most rare bird to find is the new zealand native kiwi. You will mostly find them at night and  if you’re quiet enough you can also hear them. They are one of the rarest birds in new zealand - which is why the Park Rangers catch pests to protect kiwis and other native birds. If you have never seen a kiwi this is a kiwi:

These adorable little things are endangered and there are only 68,000 of these and there alot of other birds that are endangered including the blue little penguin -  there are only 6000 of them left this is what a blue penguin looks like

And there are also many other endangered birds in New Zealand and if you walk around Shakespeare you can sometimes see traps. They  are there  to protect the birds, so this is the beautiful shakespear regional park.
