Kindness Can Change The World

Walking through the school, Aria couldn’t help but feel like everyone’s attention was on her.

“Why’s everyone staring at me?” Aria wondered. Lilly, Aria’s friend, panicked, “Sorry, we just can’t be friends anymore.”

Aria ran away from school, her eyes filled with tears, everyone was whispering, some girls were even laughing.

She slammed her bedroom door “What did I do to deserve this? Why was everybody so mean to me?” Aria said to herself. Silent tears rolled down from her cheeks, dripping to her knees. To cheer herself up, she scrolled through her phone, but she only found hatred-filled comments from her peers. Soft arms wrapped around her waist. “Are you ok?” Aria’s Mother asked. “Please just leave me alone”, Aria wept.

Several days later Aria walked back into school, seeing everyone made her anxious.

 Ring, Ring!

Everyone sprinted to class. Aria’s heart was beating as fast as the speed of light. Mrs. Claire was teaching the class that day.

“Everyone, we have a new classmate”, shouted Mrs Claire. A tall girl with blonde hair came into the classroom. People shouted, “Sit with me!”

But instead she sat with Aria.

Someone whispered. “Why’s she sitting with Aria, hasn't she seen our comments online?”

“Hi, my name's Violet.” The girl grinned. “What’s your name?” “Aria.” Aria responded, “Why don’t you hate me?”

“I don’t believe what lying bullies say.” Violet said.

“Thanks,” Aria smiled.

“Can you be my first friend?” Violet asked.

Aria replied, “Sure, and thanks for making the world a better place.”

The Power of My Words

Nee-naw”. I woke up to the sound of sirens.

“Wake up honey”, shouted my mum from the kitchen. As I rushed to the kitchen my mum was watching TV. There was a man in heavy armour babbling on about something.

Stuffing toast in my mouth, I rushed out the door and tripped over my shoelaces.  As I fell, time seemed to slow down and a small, solid, green blob that seemed to have two human hands appeared in my field of vision. It jumped up and nipped me.

Weird images flashed around in my head and I knew all of a sudden that I would be able to say something and it would become reality. As I woke up I felt really woozy, so I sat down. Remembering the vision, I saw a piece of plastic. I wondered, if I said, “Get rid of plastic!” would it disappear? I decided to do it anyway and the moment I said it, POOF, the plastic was gone. I nearly fell over with shock. Running home I leaped onto my bed and fell asleep.

Nee-naw”. I woke up to the sound of sirens. “Wake up honey” shouted my mum from the kitchen. As I rushed to the kitchen my mum was watching the TV. There was a man in heavy armour babbling on about something. This all seemed strangely familiar.

The end?

The Great Discovery

I was in the middle of a storm, and my  explorer yacht hit trouble then started to sink. I sent out an S.O.S call, put on my scuba gear and dived into the rough ocean, deeper and deeper I swam into the deep sea.

In front of me was a dark underwater cave, I swam towards it with my  light turned on. The cave looked like it would never end. After swimming for a while,  I was running out of oxygen. As I traveled  further I could see an air pocket. I felt relieved as I took a breath.

In the distance I could see something strange. I swam towards it. It looked like a normal piece of seaweed, but it was blue and felt hard like plastic, then I noticed it was growing all over the walls of the cave. I took a sample of this fantastic find.

I wonder if I could use this to change the world?

I need to get out of here and get back to the laboratory to experiment with my new discovery. All of a sudden I could see flashing lights. It was the rescue party, they tracked my signal.

Back at the laboratory I tested the seaweed and found it had similar properties as plastic although it is a natural product. This will be an amazing result for the natural environment and the world.

I shouted and jumped in the air as I realized that plastic could be replaced forever.

Five Wishes

I woke up from the cold breeze of a peculiar, exciting, sunny morning, I sat up in my unorganized, cozy bed, with a big roaring yawn. I was exhausted. My eyes hurt. I had been staring at the screen of my computer for hours the day before. No idea if anybody had tried to talk to me at all. School had been a nightmare, doing heaps of work - oh how I wished I could change my life. Everyday I’d say to myself “please, let me change the world for at least one day,”

And suddenly, that one wish came true. An old looking note was on my bedside table, reading out “You may change the world how you wish for a day - unknown” I was confused. It couldn’t possibly be real, right? Probably a prank from my sisters. I had to test it.

“I wish students could pick the subjects they learn,” I said quietly. An unexpected gust of wind blew past me- filling the room all of the sudden with warmth. I felt nothing different.

“Yeah, it’s probably a prank.” I said in my mind. But when I went to school I was surprised with my teacher exclaiming, “Hello Jemma, so, there’s a new rule in the school! You can pick your subjects.  Would you like to pick your subjects for today?” I chose writing and art. I got so worked up, I nearly fell over.

Later, I got carried away. “I wish to end world hunger and crimes,” A gust of wind blew past. It made the classroom very cold this time. “I should wait until after school for the next wish.”I said in my head.

Just then, I felt a brush against my foot. It was another note. I picked it up, and read out loud, "You only get 5 wishes." I had already got 3. After school, as I started walking home, I whispered, "I wish to have world peace and clean up all litter!”

The note disappeared, as it counted as litter..

"Hmmm.. I should really think this through, I mean, what if I wish for the wrong thing? I might waste my last wish!” I over thought. “I guess I could… I wish everyone was nice and never bullied!" I exclaimed to the now fun and peaceful earth. Just then I saw a teenager stop their friends to help an elderly cross the road. And that is how I changed the world!

Pollution.

BEEP my alarm clock went. I slowly dragged myself out of bed and went to the table. My parents had both left for a work trip so I was home alone for the weekend. I pulled out some cereal and ate it before laying down on the couch. As I scrolled through videos, I saw countless people celebrating something.

“Everyone in the comments seemed to know why, why don't I?”, I said to myself. I commented about it, waiting for an answer, but no one told me. I was genuinely confused, I literally just woke up and I had no idea what was going on. I sighed, got up and put on my jacket before deciding to go for a walk.

As I walked outside, the scent of summer hung in the air.  For some reason, it felt more peaceful than it had done the day before. I took a look around to see what was going on and realised that my neighbourhood, which used to be polluted, was now clean and so fresh and healthy. Before, chip bags and trash bags had been blown by the wind, but now all I saw was leaves.

“What on earth is going on?”, I thought to myself. I heard my phone ping inside my pocket. As I looked, someone had replied to my comment.

“There’s no more pollution, somebody started a charity, they eventually got more helpers from across the world and now it's really successful.”

Animal Adoption Day at Madeline

The second the wind chimes are audible across campus, the school day at Madeline Girls College begins. I'm generally typing up all the subject forms, authorization slips, and various documents at this time in my office, which is perched atop an oak tree. Due to Animal Adoption Day, today was the exception. Every year, on Adoption Day, students receive their brand-new pet. Typically, these include animals like cats, dogs, hamsters, rabbits, and guinea pigs. However, this year, we've added some additional options, including horses, goats, axolotls and lizards.

I was genially making my way to the Animalia Department when I spotted various students making an effort to be the first there. My heart raced as I felt a sense of anticipation in the air.

"So, what exactly is this 'Animal Adoption Day’ all about, Principal Quartz?" Ms. Chesman, the new teacher, asked a few minutes later.

“Well, it’s all about getting kids to be kinder, less selfish and more responsible. You see, when we founded the school, we figured it would be the easiest way to change some people in this world." I answered happily, I was extremely proud of this system.

“I see…” Ms Chesman replied in thought.

“Have you ever considered the hygiene status of this ‘programme’” she added.

“Seems perfectly fine to me”.

“Well, you're the principal…” Ms. Chesman said, sounding unconvinced.

“Though maybe not a very good one” this comment made it clear that she was not the animal type.

Making a Difference

Mist embraced the cold city, a warning that winter was coming. A beam of odd sunlight danced on Chloe's face. She woke up. Chloe lazily wandered to the kitchen and peered out the window. Her eyes rested on her favourite tree, a tall tree on the other side of the road. The trees swayed as the screeching, deadly noise snarled from the forest. The last leaf fell from its now barren crown, as the tree dropped down to the ground, right in front of Chloe’s eyes, which were now full of tears.

“NO!” She cried. She screamed and ran out, hoping to help the tree.

“Dear, why are you crying?” Mrs Berry, Chloe’s old neighbour, asked softly. She turned her wrinkly kind face towards Chloe, an inquiring look in her dull-grey eyes.

“That…that tree”

Mrs. Berry frowned, “I know dear! A bunch of morons they are! We need the community to save our town!”

Chloe eyes shone.

“I know what to do!”

They walked a long way until reaching a small house. They knocked.

“Yes?” A girlish voice squeaked. A tall, skinny woman opened the door.

“Aunty Lila. The tree!” Chloe cried.

Lila rushed back into the house.

She came back with six kids, shovels and pots with plants in their arms.

“We are ready to make a difference!”

“What are you doing?” Mr. Jim asked.

“Planting tr- I mean, saving the world!” A kid answered.

Mr. Jim nodded, “My kids will love to help!”

Chloe smiled.

“That’s Perfect!”
